Dear Parents,
Today I will be sending home the sight word check list that I have been working on with the kids. If there is a word that does not have a check mark by it that means that they did not know that sight word at the time that I tested them. Please continue to work on the words because the end of the year is fast approaching.
Phonics/Writing
Next week we will be reading the story, Max Takes the Train. The skill for next week will be realism and fantasy. We will also review the letter “J” and “W” .  Please look for homework to come home on Tuesday.  The story for next week will be Jen and Will.
Next week we will begin to practice writing poems. We will have one poem each day that will correspond with the letters of the alphabet.
Math
Next week we will review addition and subtraction. We will continue to work on time as well.

Library
Our library day is on every Thursday. Please make sure that the library books are back to school at least by Wednesday of every week so that we will have them ready for Thursday.

Themed Thursday
For the next five weeks will be having a themed Thursday to celebrate all of the hard work that the kids have been doing this year. Our first theme for Thursday April 19 will be Sports Day. Farm Day

Farm Day was a big hit. The kids had a lot of fun rotating to each room and learning new things about farms. Mrs. Lankford made a graph to decide which farm animal was the favorite of the Kindergarten students. The horse won with 58 votes. Mrs.Trone brought baby ducks, turkeys, guineas, and chickens and I brought baby kittens. Mrs. Trone talked about each of the poultry animals and discussed their names. In Mrs. Bryants room the students made a puzzle with a horse. Mrs. Ward taught the students information about cows and how important they are to our daily lives. Mrs. Rea taught the students how to draw a pig and horse. The kids really enjoyed the day and they are looking forward to next week Sports Day!

Seeds

Planting seeds:

Today in class the kids planted a seed and hopefully we will be watching them grow over the next several weeks. Before we planted we discussed the process of planting a seed. The kids wrote on an index card the four steps that we took to plant the seed.
Fun! Fun! Fun!

Together we added dirt, planted the seed, watered, labeled and put the cups in the window for sunlight.

This week we have been talking about seeds. We have been reading nonfiction stories about seeds. One story that we read was The Tiny Seed by Earl Carl. This book showed the students that seeds have to move and need room to grow. First it showed them places that the seed would not survive and finally at the end the story the seed found a place that had just enough room, sunlight, water and soil to live. Such a great story! Today the kids worked together to make a flower of their own from a seed to flower. They had to work together to remember all of the parts of the flower and they also had to label the different things that it will take to grow a plant or flower. This was a great project for the kids that was a little difficult but they enjoyed doing it together.
