The words on this page are the 65 sight words that we have for our goal by the end of Kindergarten.
It is a great idea to put the words on flash cards and practice them at home.

Mrs. Hembree’s Newsletter

Dear Parents,

In an effort to keep you more informed about our classroom, I’ve created a class blog. You can go to www.thehclubseneca.blogspot.com. I will put our weekly newsletter, monthly snack calendar, and special events. I would love to post pictures and/or work that we have been doing throughout the week.  The blog would also include websites and other resources to help with your child’s success in Kindergarten. Today I will be sending home a permission slip, asking if it is okay to use your child’s picture on the blog. I would use the pictures to show the things that we are doing in class. I think the kids would be proud to see themselves on the class blog. I am really excited about getting this started so that you are able to see more of what we are doing in class. When you go to the blog click on follower and it will ask for an email account. Please follow our class blog. Thank you for all of your support!
PENGUINS
The past two weeks we have been researching and learning about penguins. The kids loved the projects that we did and were so excited when they presented their penguins this week! On Thursday I sent home a flip book of some of the things that they learned about penguins. If you could read this with them and ask them some things that they learned that would be great!
SIGHT WORDS
This week I started testing for sight words. Please continue to practice these at home. The end of the year will be here before we know it.
WORD FAMILIES
The past two weeks we have been learning about word families and the ending of words. This is great practice for beginning reading because it helps with chunking words. On www.starfall.com there are a lot of great stories for your child to listen to stories with word families.
MATH
The past two weeks we have been learning about the penny and nickel. Ask your child if they can tell you the differences between the two coins.

Newsletter for January 13

Mrs. Hembree’s Newsletter

January 13, 2012

Dear Parents,
Last week I sent home grade cards. If you have not signed and returned them to school please do so as soon as possible.  I will be sending home, in the Friday folder, a copy of the grade card for you to keep at home. If you would like to look at some of the skills that will be coming up for next quarter and work on them that would be great! Thank you so much for your support!

Phonics/Writing
This week we read some stories by the author Jan Brett. The Mitten and The Hat are great winter stories that are fun for the kids and they love to read and listen too.
This next week, we will be discussing animals that live in cold regions of our world such as the penguin and the polar bear.
Through out the year we have been working on grammar. This next week I will be reviewing nouns and verbs. Ask your child to help you think of a person place or thing and review this at home.
Next week we will also be working on word families. The students will be doing sorting activities to go with these words.

Math
Next week we will discuss the penny. I will also introduce the nickel.
Library
Our library day is on every Thursday. Please make sure that the library books are back to school at least by Wednesday of every week so that we will have them ready for Thursday.
If you ever have any questions or concerns please let me know! I will be glad to help
Up coming dates:
